Let me tell you about the time I almost died.

(I know, that’s dramatic. Don’t worry, I’m going somewhere with this).

The plane began to plummet, the ocean rushed up to meet us, the passengers screamed, and in that moment I turned into a living, breathing cliché.

Yes, my life flashed before me. Yes, I saw every regret, every unfulfilled dream. And yes, I swore that if I made it out in one piece, I was going to start doing things very differently.

I’ll admit that all sounds pretty dramatic but I gotta tell you, there’s nothing like a healthy dose of fear to help you put things into perspective!

Which is something I really needed because I’d already fallen prey to another of our most popular clichés: the cult of hustle. The false narrative that if you’re a high-achieving woman on a mission you have to work yourself into the ground.

I nearly killed myself working on my business — a business I loved but one that just didn’t speak to the core elements of my life’s work. Riddled with anxiety and absolutely exhausted, I went away to the Galapagos to try to get some perspective. If I’m being really honest, I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to keep going.

Until the decision was very nearly taken away from me.

As the plane carrying me back to England dropped and turned, I knew that I wasn’t done yet. I wasn’t ready to quit.

That moment changed everything for me.

The plane finally managed to right itself, and I made it back to the UK, grateful to have a second chance –– one that I grasped with both hands. I reassessed everything about my business, life, and mission.

I came to realise that the most successful, sustainable, and impactful businesses aren’t run by women running themselves into the ground. They’re run by women in their element.

It’s time to come into your element.
